Established in 2015, Imageless is an award-winning independent photobook publisher based in Shanghai, China. Other World started as a self-published comic series about the underground industrial techno music scene and queer nightlife in Chicago; and illustrates themes of ending, beginning, reality, fantasy, sentimentality, transcendence, and in part is a eulogy for places that no longer exist. Phase Zero is an experimental-exploration-time-capsule-print-publication. It is an artifact attempting to document and critique the rapidly evolving culture and visual language of the current counterculture in NYC. Its DIY aesthetic, guerilla marketing, and rapid production mimics the tactics of 70s punk fanzines to contradict the internet aesthetic and create traditional community networks. Constantly evolving to simulate culture and trend cycles, the publication’s formula is simple but never finalized. Its container is an unconventional manifesto: a conversation between the two editors with new annotations for every issue.

The discourse continues in monthly community meetings where new content is collected and old content is questioned. This dialogue is manifested in its ephemera: iterations of unfinished issues, typeface sketches on ripped newsprint, existential writings scribbled haphazardly on misprints, and messy risograph flyers.

Phase Zero is a space for anyone to share whatever they want. Phase Zero is subject to change.

Xi Li (b. 1995 Suzhou, China) is an artist who works with photography, video and installation to address the unreliability of image and the fallibility of memory, using methods of construction, simulation, intervention and refabrication in her studio, to consider the unstable harmony between actual and fictive recollections of the past, and to blur the lines in between. A key tells a story—whether opening the door to a bedroom or unlocking a bicycle. It signifies our interactions with the world while simultaneously safeguarding our sanctuaries from intrusion. Accompanied by other items on a metal loop, they narrate tales of hidden secrets, far-flung relationships, or perhaps a rant of the ever-rising New York rent.

"Keychain Access" delves deep into this narrative. Through photography, interviews, and audio recordings this project attempts to capture and share the visual qualities, stories, and sounds of keys, charms, and fobs, linked in tandem. In an age rapidly veering towards digital modes of security—from biometrics to password managers—the tactile intimacy of the keychain faces potential oblivion. Echoing Apple's Mac OS X password manager, "Keychain Access" seeks to archive these seemingly mundane objects before they fade into obscurity and are forgotten.

This experience at the Rehearsal Art Book fair will be an opportunity for visitors to participate in this project and become part of the publication process, reversing the roles of the exhibitor and the visitors.
